Final FASStasy Set For FASS GraduAIDs
Graduating students from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences can expect something exciting this year to mark the end of their undergraduate life in NUS.
For the first time in FASS history, a party will be held for its graduating cohort. Final FASStasy will take place at The Beer Market on 8 May and will feature a slew of dance acts, live music performances and interactive activities.
Phua Pei Pei, manager of donor relations for the FASS Commencement Class Giving, said Final FASStasy will be a great way for students to celebrate their graduation and give back to the FASS community, as all proceeds from the party will go toward the FASS Student Advancement Bursary Fund.
“We hope it
will be a memorable night for graduating FASS students, and at the same time we also want to cultivate a spirit of giving among FASS students,” Phua said. “Students’ participation in Final FASStasy can actually help fund FASS students who are in need of financial support.”
Dania Chan is a fourth-year psychology student who will be performing at Final FASStasy with the NUS a cappella group, Resonance. She said performing for a good cause makes it especially meaningful for her.
I have sung for many gigs, but this event is special to me because it’s my last gig as an NUS student, and knowing that the proceeds will go toward supporting FASS juniors makes it even more meaningful for me.
Final FASStasy is part of the faculty-wide fundraiser, iGraduAID, which is led by graduating students from the faculty. All donations raised from Final FASStasy will go toward benefiting FASS students in need.
Liu Xiaoxuan, a final-year business administration and communications and new media student, is campaign director for iGraduAID. She said the graduation party will feature performances by NUS talents, such as KR Rockers and Sheares Band, who are renowned for their energetic acts.
“Graduating students from FASS can also look forward to performances by local bands Sunny Side Up, Tigerlilies, The Popbottles and Kim+Sarah, who will be keeping audiences entertained with high-energy numbers and crowd favorites,” Liu said.
Aspiring performers will also be given a chance to take the stage in a talent contest, where they can perform any act of their choice, be it singing, dancing, beat-boxing or even juggling.
Final FASStasy party-goers will crown their favorite contestant, and winners will take home attractive prizes, Liu said.
Eileen Teo, a fourth-year sociology major, said she is excited about Final FASStasy.
“I think the idea for a graduation party is really awesome,” she said. “Live bands, games and lots of mingling — there’s no better way of celebrating graduation! I am definitely looking forward to it.”
Phua said to assure students that all donations
“We understand that students want to be informed of how their money is being used and where it goes,” Phua said. “Therefore, we want to assure all students that the commencement giving team will utilize their donations in an appropriate and meaningful manner, and every cent will be put to good use.”
This year, the team hopes to raise at least $11,250 to sponsor five bursaries.
Each ticket for Final FASStasy is priced at $15 and entitles students to a free beverage, as well as a 10% discount off all drinks at The Beer Market.
Ticket orders can be made via email at firstname.lastname@example.org and will be sold at the commencement giving team’s booth from 12 to 23 March at the FASS AS1/AS6 walkway.
