Food Hunt 2013: May the odds be ever in your flavour.
//Written by Sim Kai Lin and Marcus Pang
On 23 March 2013, 200 food lovers took part in Food Hunt 2013, an annual event organised by FASS Club. It combined a national pastime (eating) and the best that university life has to offer (friendships), tossed together to create delectable ‘rojak’ of sorts!
The essence of food hunt is aptly captured in the theme for this year –The Hunger Game: May the odds be ever in your flavour. Other than participants being hungry for food literally, the programmes were organised around the theme of the popular movie series “The Hunger Games”. Similar to how participants were chosen for each district in the movie, teams had to ballot for their stalls. Food trails were also created and named after characters from The Hunger Games series. In addition, hawkers were grouped into various districts that were inspired from the movie. Like The Hunger Games, there was only one winner. Food Hunt 2013 would
like to congratulate Flora’s team
(Team 1) on their victory.
Throughout the day, participants visited numerous hawker centres and sampled a wide variety of local delights with their friends. Teams covered over eight different areas in 8 hours, no mean feat by any chance. Most finished their food trail in about 5 hours, with one team accomplishing all 8 locations to be crowned Champion. In the end, all were belly-satisfied, food-coma patients with a huge grin on their faces.
If you have missed out on this event, fear not. Food Hunt will be posting a list of food recommendations after the event. You may follow them on twitter @FASSFoodHunt and/or like them on Facebook at fb.me/FASSFoodHunt. We’ll drop a preview of what’s to come by recommending these two food places: the fried durian stall from Old Airport Road Hawker and the economical rice stall situated near Tiong Bahru Market.
For more recommendations on food, you will (unfortunately) have to wait for Food Hunt to post them. Food Hunt would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to partake in their own food trips throughout the year.
Food Hunt 2013 was a buffet of fun for its participants this year. We can’t wait for Food Hunt 2014 next year!#foodhunt13, Food Hunt, Food Hunt 2013
